Principal's Message

September 6, 2018

Dear Canal View Families,

The first day of the 2018/2019 school has come and gone. Although it was very warm, I think that the students had a great first day of school!

Yesterday, we welcomed our new Kindergarten students and their parents to their orientation day.  I was lucky enough to greet many of our students and families as they came into the building smiling and excited to be here.  Some of our younger students colored and filled a backpack with special facts about themselves.  Our older students met new friends and worked to get themselves organized in their new classrooms.   As Mrs. McCarthy and I visited classrooms, everyone was busy and happy to be here!  It was exciting to see the school “come back to life!”

Today was the first day that our Kindergarten students come to school on the bus and they did a wonderful job!  It was also fantastic to see older brothers and sisters or neighborhood friends helping our youngest learners on their first day!

If any of you visited Canal View yesterday, you experienced our new visitor procedure.  Starting yesterday, when you come to Canal View, after you are buzzed into the building you will be asked to sign in and show your identification.  You will then be given a sticker to be worn during the duration of your visit.  When you leave the building, you will be asked to sign out at the Greeter’s Desk and exit through the main doors.  If you have planned your visit ahead of time, if possible, please call the school and let us know that you are coming.

If you are a family that picks up your child at dismissal, you will also be asked to show identification at the Greeter’s Desk and identify the child that you will be picking up.  At that time you will be given a colored sticker that “tells” the cafeteria staff that you have been cleared for the dismissal process.  As you have always done, you will be asked to sign out the child in the cafeteria that you are taking home.  Please plan to be here at Canal View no later than 3:25pm if you are picking up a child.  If you are not here, we will be putting your child on the bus.   If you have sent us a note that you will be picking up at dismissal and you are running late, if you call our office, we will hold your child until you get here.  We followed this procedure yesterday and it went well.  Please know that we will follow this procedure every day.  I thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to keep our children safe!

Canal View’s Curriculum Night/Open House will be held on Wednesday, September 26 starting at 6:00 pm. More information will follow as we get closer to that date.  We all look forward to seeing you then!

The Canal View Parent Association is up and running.  They have already hosted our ice cream social for new students, provided the supply boxes for families who placed orders and provided breakfast for the team here at Canal View on the first day of school. The leadership of that team is;

CVA will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m. in our school library. Please try to join us!!

The Canal View School team hopes that this new school year bring each one of your children the opportunity to make new friends, expand their interests and talents as well to continue to grow as a learner.  We look forward to working in partnership with you as we work through the adventure of the 2018/2019 school year!

Yours in partnership,

Carol Robinson
