Breakfast and a Book Club

Breakfast and a Book Club meets  throughout the year to provide students in  Grades 1 and 2 an opportunity to share and develop a love of reading. We incorporate retired guide dogs and therapy dogs. Using these dogs is an effective way to increase a students self-confidence and increase their reading levels. It has been proven effective through other nationwide programs, such as Reading to Rover.

The Breakfast and a Book Club started in 2004 with 1 dog and 12 kids. It has grown in popularity and now we have 4-5 dogs and between 70-80 kindergarten and second graders who come to school early to read to our therapy and guiding eye dogs.

We are fortunate enough to have the support of the CVA. Without their funding, we could not serve breakfast each week. Thank you for your support!!!

Please contact Shelli Lefebre (slefebre@spencerportschools.org) if you have any questions!

A special thank you goes out to the CVA for their support and for all the parent volunteers who help the club run smoothly!!
